Hiking holiday in Flachau at the centre of the Salzburg mountains
Here's where your summer holiday becomes a real experience
Anyone who spends their summer holiday in Flachau comes most of all to go hiking in the Salzburg mountains.
The Flachau high plateau at just under 1.000 metres altitude is perfect for hiking and mountaineering. All around it's only uphill, on foot or with the mountain railway.
There are so many hiking trails just around the corner from us that we've given up trying to count them. An afternoon on the Grießenkar? A day on the Rossbrand? Or totally extreme on the Dachstein glacier at 2,700 metres? We've got a whole bag full of suggestions.
From the wide valley floor, well-signposted, pleasant hiking trails take you wandering through alpine meadows and over mountain crests in half-day or whole day tours.
Numerous mountain huts and restaurants offer a warm welcome after a long or short hike.
